Fareham and Gosport Mencap Society works
with people with a learning disability to fight discrimination.
It campaigns to ensure that their rights are recognised and they are
respected as individuals and treated as equals.
Mencap's roots lie in campaigning.
People with a learning disability are still disadvantaged by discrimination
and under funding of community care.
Learning disability is a lifelong condition which results from damage
to the brain before,
during or after birth, or from genetic or chromosome factors (like Down's
syndrome).
The committee is made up of parents and carers, professionals - all
volunteers who give as much time as they can.
We are always looking for new recruits to help out with the workload,
email me if you can help !
